Famous all over the world for its coral reefs, there are plenty of water sports such as diving, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, kayaking and more. Cozumel's mostly undeveloped territory at the center of the island is covered by jungle and swampy lagoons, which are home to tiny mammals and endemic birds that have never left the island. Noteworthy is the Chankanaab National Park, a Cozumel icon, and the Punta Sur Ecological Reserve. Negril, Jamaica
Negril is pretty primitive when compared to uptown Jamaica. You'll need to go the other way, east of Montego Bay, to find championship golf courses, for instance, or horse-back riding. For horse-racing, cricket test matches, football, or car races, you'll need to bite the bullet and go to Kingston. But Negril is just fine for two weeks of mucking about on the beach, with drinks at noon, watching the sunsets, reading, and watching stuff on the barbeque. Especially if it's snowing back home!

Planted between lush, forest-covered mountains and breathtaking beaches, the Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City) has many charms, most notably the Cariocas , its exuberant residents.

The beaches of Ixtapa, Troncones, Playas Larga and Blanca are somewhat wilder and unprotected, often with a heavy surf in which the swimmer should exercise greater caution.
Mazatlan, Mexico

While there's plenty of elbowroom, Mazatlán's sunny beaches clamor with activity. Strolling vendors display their hand-made crafts, parasails float upward, and sunbathers of all ages frolic in the blue Pacific.
Bermuda

Bermuda has some magnificent large and small beaches. Some great ones are public, meaning that anyone can enjoy them. But some are private, not for general public, only to their guests - re-assuring to those who stay at properties with private beaches. Beach sand is not volcanic but from finely pulverized remains of calcium carbonate shells and skeletons of invertebrates such as corals, clams, forams and other shells. Beaches begin with tiny single-celled animals, Foraminifera, in particular, homotrema rubrum - or forams - dark red skeletal animals that grow profusely on the underside of Bermuda's coral reefs. When the red forms die, the skeletons plummet to the ocean floor. Wave action erodes the forams. They become mixed with other debris on the seabed such as the white shells of clams, snails and sea urchins.
Maui, Hawaii
